Bodie Camp

It really does feel like you are on another planet here.  Miles and miles of high desert, mountains in the distance, Mono Lake is just a tiny spec on the horizon, and the only neighbors are the free range cows that wander right by camp.  The only sounds are leaves in the wind, buzzing of a few flies, and the cowbells.  Solitude, peace, and relaxation.

And then we discovered that we had full cell signal and LTE at camp.  Hmmm.....

The spot is absolutely breathtaking.  This was only our second time here after joining friends for a summer camping weekend two years ago.  It's tucked away off the road, hidden by these great boulders, and sheltered by wonderful groves of Aspen trees.  The wildflowers were in full bloom, the sky was bright blue, and the light breeze was refreshing.  Couldn't have been a more perfect start to a week of camping and exploring to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary!

Mono Lake in the distance.  No really, it is there.  Try squinting and then you'll see it!
After setting up camp, going for a nature walk, and enjoying the peaceful views, we settled in for dinner, relaxation, and yes... we posted some pictures and caught up on a little social media!  (Shhh... don't tell Mother Nature!)

Hudson was very interested in the cows as they wandered back towards an unseen "home" around dinner time.  S was a little nervous they would stop by to check us out or think Hudson was one of their lost babies.  However they paid us no attention and simply walked by creating a little dinnertime music with their bells.

We camped with a full moon. Such a gorgeous night with light reflecting off the high desert landscape.  Although it did mean our ability to see a dark, starry night was limited to a few morning hours (which we slept right through!) the solitude without the stars was pretty cool itself.

Bright and early we were ready for some coffee to take on our morning walk, and more pictures of flowers before heading back down towards civilization and a very long drive to the coast for part 2 of our anniversary trip!
